Microsoft clarifies the terms of upgrading to Windows 11 for free

As unveiled at the Windows 11 presentation, users of the previous OS version can upgrade to the newest one without paying anything. Later, Microsoft representatives clarified that those users who want to upgrade should not put this decision on a shelf.

The company specified that the free update will remain up for grabs for Windows 10 users only for a limited time. The software maker spoke very vaguely of the time frame, shaking off all the questions with the phrase “not earlier than one year after we launch the update program.” In the words of analysts, those wishing to switch to the new Windows version for free should do it by the end of 2022.

As stated on the official Microsoft website, if the user’s device has an up-to-date version of Windows 10 and their computer hardware meets the system requirements, then it will be possible to upgrade to Windows 11 around the beginning of 2022. However, the update will have different distribution timeframes in different regions of the world. As announced earlier, in some cases, users will be able to install the Windows system even if their computer lacks the TPM crypto module.
